Alfred E. ”Gene” Tribett, 73, of McMechen died February 1, 2002 in the Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, WV. He was a retired engineer with the former B&O Railroad, Benwood yard; a member of the St. James Catholic Church, McMechen and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of McMechen City Council, 1976-1982; mayor of McMechen, 1982-1989; a member of the WV House of Delegates, 1989-1991; a member of the Garibaldi Lodge; Knights of Columbus; VFW Post 3655; American Legion Post 5; Marshall County Senior Citizens and the National Rifle Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Kinney Tribett in 1996 and a brother, Robert Tribett. Surviving are a son William Rosalita Tribett; six daughters, Mrs. Richard Susan Reineke, Mrs. Albert Linda Zavolta, Kathleen Long, Barbara Neff, Debra Henry and Mrs. Steve Rebecca Jones Webster; a brother, George Dorothy Tribett; three sisters, Mrs. John Helen Flading, Patricia Kolas, Mrs. John Martha Knoblich; 17 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. Friends recieved 2-4 and 7-9 pm Sunday and Monday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen, with vigil service at 7:30 pm Monday. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 at the St. James Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, Wheeling.
