Mercer, Ada M. Hawkins, 93, of McMechen, WV, formerly of Moundsville, WV, died Thursday, May 15, 2008 in Forest Hills Care Center, St. Clairsville, OH.
She was born October 20, 1914 in Glen Easton, WV, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Alice Fuller Conner.
Mrs. Mercer was a retired employee of the former Bobbie Brooks Garment Factory, Bellaire, OH. She was a member of the First Christian Church, McMechen, where she served as a past deaconess, organist, secretary, and a member of the UNI class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Hawkins; her second husband, Earl C. Mercer; a grandson, Michael, “Mickey” Phipps; a sister, Velma Kelley.
Surviving are a son, Charles Connie Hawkins, of Glen Dale, WV; a daughter, Karen Phipps, of McMechen; three grandchildren, Sam Ali Phipps of Moon Township, PA, Mark Dana Hawkins of Glen Dale, and Jill Hawkins of McMechen; three great-grandchildren, Zach and Courtney Phipps, and Ava Hawkins; a step-daughter-in-law, Patricia Mercer of Maine; a niece, Shirlene Ray Workman.
Friends received 2-4 & 6-8 pm Sunday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, where services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, May 19, 2008 with Rev. William Barger officiating.
Interment in McMechen Cemetery.
